I had my mom and sister over this evening for dinner and a movie. I thought it would be a nice to have a "Mother and Sister" night. For dinner, I made homeade crab cakes, buttered baby carrots and oven fries. For dessert, we had creme brulee. I used to make my own creme brulee, but then I tried the Williams-Sonoma creme brulee mix and let me tell you, I will never make it again. This mix is unbelievably easy (just heat and pout into dishes) and quite good. Although it was a rather simple meal to prepare, everything turned out well. I had seen this at the theater and thought it was fabulous, so I bought it when it was released. It was terribly disappointing to me that Joaquin didn't win the Academy Award for his performance. Although I have not yet seen Capote, I truly feel that Phoenix should have won because he was SO good at portraying Johnny Cash even down to the singing voice and stage mannerisms. There is a show that comes on TV where they find a family in need, in great despair or some really sad story, go demolition this familys house and then rebuild them a better, stronger, larger, newer home. What a start to my day. Found 3 mallards stuck in the small pen I built around the tree in my backyard. Built the pen to keep ducks from gobbling down birdseed I put for the small birds. Works great but every once in awhile security is breached and renegade ducks go rampant inside, inhaling all the food in seconds. Lots of fun going round and round the tree to get the mallards out. They kept flying into the chicken wire in their panic. I took off the wire top, and had my old mutt go one way, while I went the other way to steer the ducks to the open end. Almost made me want to have duck soup, but finally each one figured it out. I have now earned my sit-down time in front of my computer searching for Digital camera and Idon'tcare how obscure that topic is. Anything now beats the hell out of going round and round a tree after cornered panicking mallards.

What a start to my day. Found 3 mallards stuck in the small pen I built around the tree in my backyard. Built the pen to keep ducks from gobbling down birdseed I put for the small birds. Works great but every once in awhile security is breached and renegade ducks go rampant inside, inhaling all the food in seconds. Lots of fun going round and round the tree to get the mallards out. They kept flying into the chicken wire in their panic. I took off the wire top, and had my old mutt go one way, while I went the other way to steer the ducks to the open end. Almost made me want to have duck soup, but finally each one figured it out. I tried out a new sport today called horseshoes. It was a foreign sport to me from all the other sports I play. I did not even realize how heavy those darn things are to throw. See it done and hearing about people do it's one thing, but trying it out the first time was really an experience. What a day it's been and it's only 1:30 p.m. Yikes! The day started out with lots of snow falling. My son soon annouces that all schools are closed. Of course I started thinking maybe I should just take the day off and not fight the commute. But what if everyone, including my boss, makes to the office with no problems? Seems I'm always taking two steps forward and one step back. What a gorgeous day. I woke up this morning and felt like a million bucks. It.s seldom that I jump right out of bed in the early morning and feel ready for whatever the day brings.
