Google Stock Plummets: Hello?

Google stock dropped 19% today, losing over $15 billion in market value. I'm no financial genius, but wasn't this stock WAAAAY overpriced?

Anyone out there have even a vague recollection of the 1999 stock market run and what happened in April of 2000? No overvalued dot com stocks involved there, where there?

Oh, wait...

CNN Can't Convert Days Into Years And Months

I was just watching CNN's post State of the Union speech coverage and I had to laugh. One of the factoids their "Truth Panel" brought up to point out that the war against terrorists has not been successful is that it's been 1,602 days since the attacks on 9/11 and that Osama and his second in command have still not been caught.

Who, I ask you, in the heck would use DAYS as a time scale to track events since 9/11? Even if wanting to make the same point, wouldn't most rational people say that it's been over four years since the attack? Or if they really wanted to get detailed say "close to four years and five months"? Who the heck lists a duration of four plus years in days?

I'll tell you who: Someone who wants to make the number look worse, or larger than it is.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a good thing that those guys are still out there somewhere. I'm just pointing out the blatant bias out there in the news media.

What Is It With Postal Workers?

Another (ex-) postal worker has gone ballistic (sorry, no pun intended) and killed six people at a mail processing plant, and then killing herself.

It happened last night in Santa Barbara, California. Although the last time a postal worker went homicidal was 8 years ago, it still seems like there's something inherent to the job (or the losing of the job) that makes people go nuts. I wonder why this doesn't happen with Fed-Ex or UPS workers?

One thing that drives my absolutely insane concerning these murder suicides is the fact that the shooter is (in my mind) the worst kind of coward... If you want to kill yourself, fine, but to murder innocent people and then not hang around to punished is to me doubly vile.

My condolences to the families of the victims.

Terrorists Bomb 6 Churches: News Coverage Nil

Wow, a ABC anchor/reporter is wounded in a terrorist bombing and it's MAJOR news. However to find the news that 6 Catholic/Christian churches were bombed yesterday you'd have to dig REALLY deep.

If it wasn't so terrible it would be funny. Let U.S. forces chip a piece of paint off a mosque and the news is all OVER it, but if Christian churches and churchgoers are bombed into oblivion it's not even worth mentioning.

But of course there's no bias in the media, right?

Hamas Wants It's Cake And To Eat It ,Too

Now that Hamas has been legitimized by the recent Palestinian elections despite their radical views and history, I suppose they think that gives them a pass in international politics.

Although they are not willing to change their policies in regard to the extermination of Israel, they are now complaining and asking countries who have supported the Palestinian people financially to NOT discontinue sending money to the country. I don't know about other countries, but personally I don't understand why the U.S. has been contributing over $200 million a year to Palestine when as far as I know oil-rich Islamic countries do not step in to elevate the Palestinians standard of living. I mean I understand why the Saudi Arabias and such aren't doing so: In order to keep a fire lit under the conflict... I just don't know why the U.S. has continued to send funds to a country that wants to wipe an ally from the face of the earth AND hates us as well.

It's obvious that we can't buy them, so why bother trying?

Record Profits for Oil Companies

According to Reuters, Exxon had yet another blowout record quarterly profit. Their profit for the quarter was almost 11 BILLION dollars. Now I understand that corporations are in the business of making money, but considering the news (which is not limited to Exxon, but other oil companies as well) don't give me any bogus crap about the price of gasoline at the pump being directly related to the cost of oil per barrel.

I can understand fluctuations in the price of oil, but it stinks to high Heaven that oil company profits increase so bloody dramatically while the price per barrel is skyrocketing. That tells me that consumers are getting doubly gouged and that gas prices could be a lot lower than they are at the pumps right now.

Thanks, Washington for doing such a great job for your lowly citizens.

Welcome To My Blog!

Hi there! Sorry, this site is no longer about the classic horror movie Suspiria. I acquired this domain recently and since it's based on a scary theme, have decided to use it as a place to post my thoughts about stuff that I consider scary. Of course I won't limit it to that, but also to whatever happens to pop into my head, news tidbits and other items of interest.

Try using a kettlebell for high intensity fitness. It burn fat and build muscle like nothing else out there.
